What it does

KiddoTurn is a chore chart and routine app for families. Parents set the routines once: morning, after school, bedtime, with the tasks and the time each one is due. If a required task becomes overdue, the games and videos the parents chose pause on the child’s phone. They come back the moment the last task is ticked off.

  • On the child’s phone: today’s list, timers for tasks like “read for 20 minutes”, and tasks a parent checks, such as homework.
  • For parents: each child’s progress and which apps are open, on a phone or in the web app at kiddoturn.com/app.
  • Quick overrides: “Allow apps” opens everything for a while, and “Lock apps now” pauses the chosen apps straight away, for example at dinner.
  • The whole family: the other parent, a grandparent or a nanny can be invited to add and check their own tasks.

Key decisions

A deadline, not a punishment. Apps stay open while there is still time to do the task. Nothing pauses unless something is overdue.

Done means done. Apps reopen as soon as the tasks are finished, without waiting for a grown-up to unlock them.

Always reachable. Calls, messages and KiddoTurn itself never pause.

Real restrictions, honestly described. A paused app really does not open, but no app is impossible to get around. If someone switches the protection off in the phone’s settings, the parents get an alert, and changing which apps are paused needs a parent’s OK.

Private by default. No ads, no tracking, no location, no reading of messages and no screen recording. The list of apps on the child’s phone stays on that phone.

How it is built

On iPhone, KiddoTurn uses the restriction features built into the system: Apple Screen Time (Family Controls), on iOS 16.4 or later. On Android it uses an accessibility service. Schedules already on the child’s phone keep working offline, and completed tasks sync when the phone is back online. The parents’ web app is built with React and Supabase.

Current state

  • iPhone and Android: free beta. Families join from the KiddoTurn website and test the app for two weeks.
  • Public launch: planned for November 2026.
